Building Eco-Awareness from the Classroom: World Environment Day at SKSPS

That’s why World Environment Day 2025 wasn’t just a one-day celebration at our school—it was an experience designed to spark real conversations and inspire action.
As the top school in Andal, we use such global observances to help students understand their role in building a better future. This year’s theme, “Ending Plastic Pollution,” gave us the perfect opportunity to blend learning with environmental awareness in age-appropriate and creative ways.
What Made This Day Special at SKS Public School?
Rather than simply telling students what to do, we encouraged them to ask why. Why is plastic dangerous for animals? Why doesn’t it break down like other waste? Why should we care? This inquiry-based approach set the tone for the day’s activities.
- Visual Learning Sessions: Teachers used short animated videos and real-life case studies to explain the life cycle of plastic and how it harms the planet.
- Student-Led Campaigns: Groups of students designed informative posters and spoke to their classmates about easy swaps—like using cloth bags or metal bottles instead of plastic.
- Daily Habits Workshop: Our senior students led workshops for juniors on forming eco-friendly habits, turning peer learning into a tool for impact.
- Reflection Circles: At the end of the day, students gathered in small groups to share what they learned and how they planned to reduce plastic usage at home.
